Shootout on Farmer; Two Injured
VICKSBURG, Miss. – Two shootings on Sunday night resulted in two people injured and property damage.
Just before 11:30 p.m. a shootout happened on Farmer Street near its intersection with Mundy. Two people were injured with at least one struck by a large caliber bullet. When police arrived at the scene they rendered first aid to that person according to witnesses.
One vehicle in the 400 block of Farmer was observed to have at least two areas damaged by the gunfire. Both the driver-side and passenger-side back windows were hit along with the right front quarter panel.
The Vicksburg Daily News noted ten shell casings laying on the ground in the area of 400 Farmer. Additional shell casings were found in the 300 block, indicating a shootout on Farmer. When medics arrived, one of the injured parties was laying near the intersection of Farmer and Maulding Drive.
There is reason to believe this incident is related to another incident involving a fight seen in a widely distributed video.
Numerous Vicksburg Police officers worked the scene of the shooting and taped off a large area.
This is the second shooting Sunday and the fourth in three days
Another shooting took place near Alcorn and Elizabeth Circle just before 8 p.m. Eleven shots were heard by witnesses. No one was known to be injured in that shooting but there was property damaged by the gunfire.
There was also a shooting on Saturday afternoon in the 1200 block of South Street. No injuries were reported in that shooting but property was damaged.
Just before noon on Friday, two people got into an altercation at the gas station located on Cherry at Clay. That escalated to a shooting with no injuries but there was damage to property. The shooter then ran East toward Adams Street and was last seen running towards Grove and Locust.
Shootings continue to plague the city
Vicksburg has endured several shootings over the past few weeks including one at the gas station located at Clay and Old 27. One person was injured when a bullet struck them in the foot in that shooting. Another incident involved a home receiving damage on Hillside Circle.
On October 21 the Vicksburg Daily News received three separate of reports of shootings in the city. The first report was at First East and Farmer. Around 7:30 that same evening a report of 40-45 shots was called in from the West-North West part of the city. A third report was in the area of Martha and Grammar Street that was called in around 11 p.m.
