Gators finished Tuesday with a district win over Callaway; Missy Gators fell short

Vicksburg High School(14-3) grabbed their second district win of the season after defeating Callaway 65-47 on Tuesday night.
“It feels good to win and getting them to trust the process was important but once they got patient, good things started happening,” VHS Head Coach Kelvin Carter said.
The Gators quickly came out in the first quarter putting up points as Davian Willams found success behind the 3-point line and Kam Bailey controlled the inside to help VHS go up 16-14.
Tyler Henderson helped keep VHS afloat in the second quarter by grabbing his own rebounds and taking them back up for points but Braxton Ward helped keep things close for the Chargers as they went into halftime down 30-26 after a dunk from Williams.
Coming out of halftime VHS got back to their old selves with Williams and Jaylin Jackson hitting 3-pointers while Bailey, Henderson and Mikey Johnson all hit key shots to give the Gators a 51-37 lead.
Jackson made sure that VHS maintained their fast pace style of play as he found his rhythm when he made two more 3-pointers to finish with 12 points. Bailey also scored 12 points while Williams led with 18. Henderson finished with 10 and Johnson added eight.
Mincer Minor IV received the game ball due to his excellent defense that helped secured the win.
Ward led Callaway with 18 points.
Missy Gators:
VHS fell short 61-43 as Rodrianna Hall led the way with 12 points. Kierra James pitched in 11 while Cynia Johnson and Jada Erwin both had six. Terri Boyd finished with four points.
Wilson led Calloway with 19 points and Branson scored 12. Ringold put up 10 points and Walker finished with eight.
Gators will play again on Friday when they host Columbus.
