John Whitfield Noble 1944-2026

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — 

John Whitfield Noble, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

John was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and he grew up on Melton Plantation in Lorman, Mississippi. He graduated from Jefferson High School and the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Port Gibson.

After several years working with Coca Cola in Memphis, he returned home to farm with his father and uncle. John enjoyed a successful 40-year farming career. He served on the boards of Claiborne Educational Foundation, Port Gibson Oil Works, and the Farmers Co-op. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting with family and friends. He was an avid collector of antique Coke bottles and arrowheads.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Fran Noble, and his brother-in-law, James Brady.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sarah Brady Noble; his daughter Brady Noble, of Memphis; his son, Whit Noble, and his wife, Christina, of Germantown; and four grandsons, Field, Dayton, Beckett, and Cohen Noble, who adored him dearly. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Elise Phillips, and her husband, John; Susan Jones, and her husband, Robin; his brother, Steve, and his wife, Jane; his sister-in-law, Anne Fox, and her husband, John; his brother-in-law, John Brady, and his wife, Donna; and several nieces and nephews.

John will be remembered for his deep love of family, the special bond he shared with his many cousins on Melton Plantation, and his lifelong dedication to farming. Those who knew him will remember his strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to each. His legacy will live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 1, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Port Gibson, immediately preceding the funeral service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. The service will be officiated by Will Montgomery and Hank Williams. Burial will follow the service at Wintergreen Cemetery,

Pallbearers will be Walter Cade, Jimmy Cassell, Joc Carpenter, Hank Drake, Robert Gage, Mott Headley, Lem Montgomery, and Doug Nasif.
