Joseph Wayne Farris, 1945-2023

Joseph Wayne Farris of Vicksburg, MS was born on October 21, 1945. He was 77. Wayne passed away peacefully from this life on October 2, 2023. Wayne was born and raised here in Vicksburg. While Wayne was proud of his Lebanese roots, he loved his home of Vicksburg.
Wayne attended Carr Central High School. After graduation from High School, Wayne attended Hinds Jr. College. After college, Wayne went to work for TG&Y as a store manager. He traveled for TG&Y to oversee the opening of new stores in his district. When his career with TG&Y ended, Wayne went to work for Walmart in the Hardware Dept.
Wayne was passionate about his hobbies. Wayne loved his cars. They were beautiful to look at, he kept them like new, He took great pride in his cars; he was especially proud of their speed. He loved going fishing. Wayne loved his Ole Miss Rebels! He never missed a televised game. Wayne was definitely among their greatest, most loyal fans.
Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed sharing his love of Ole Miss football and fishing with his nephews, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
Wayne is preceded in death by his wife, Cordelia Cain Farris; his parents, N.J. and Speler Assaf Farris; his two sisters, Linda Farris Tuggle and Sylvia Farris; his granddaughter, Kelsey Hise.
Wayne is survived by his nephews, Jimmy Tuggle (Cindie), and Jody Tuggle; his cousins, Tommy and Kathy Assaf of McComb; Debbie and Ricky Hartzog of Madison; Jennifer and Jerry Abdulla of McComb; Deenie Grubbs of Madison; his step-daughters, Paula Shoops and Ann Cain Hise (Ricky) of Texas; his grandchildren, Deidra Brown (J.R.), Stephen Jobe, Kami Shoops (Dallas), Danielle Shoops Grogan (David), Tayelor Hise and Ella Hise; his great-grandchildren, Landon Brown, Bentley Jobe, Kole Jobe, Hazel Shoops Hearn, Baylor Shoops Hearn, Oliver Shoops, Olyn Shoops, Ruby Shoops and Abagail Pierce and Owen Pierce who reside in Texas.
Wayne was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Avenue at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18 with the Rev. Robert Andrews officiating.
