Korey Sims Honored by VCS;Flashes Defeated Tri-County
Vicksburg, Miss.-Friday was a special night for St. Aloysius when the boys’ basketball team defeated Tri-County, but they were also able to honor a fallen former teammate, Korey Sims Jr. Before the varsity basketball game Korey’s family was gifted with his jersey and special words from his classmate.
“This jersey, worn with pride and excellence, is a symbol of the incredible player he was both on and off the court,” Walker Lambiotte said. “This jersey is more than just fabric it’s a testament to Korey’s dedication, his talent, and the joy he brought to this school and his team. We hope it serves as a reminder of the incredible young man he was both on and off the court.”
After gifting Korey’s mother(Tomorries Riley) and his aunt(Jenophia Truitt) with his jersey, Lambiotte announced that a plaque was made in Sims’ honor, which was placed near the locker room.
“This plaque will bear Korey’s name and will remind every player, every student, and every visitor who walks by of the legacy he leaves behind,” Lambiotte added. “It will be a symbol of the respect he earned, the love he gave, and the faith he lived by.”
Back in August, Sims was shot and killed just a couple of months after graduating from the Vicksburg Catholic School. He left behind a host of people who will forever treasure his memory and honor his name.
After the special recognition the night got even better for the Flashes as they took down Tri-County 78-73. Both Anthony McCloud(10 rebounds) and Carson Gleese(4 rebounds and 4 assists) scored 30 points each. Sadler Lambiotte finished the night with six points while Carson Henderson(4 rebounds) and Laken Bradley both added five points each. Walt Andrews also finished with two points.
