Davian Smith and Jae’la Smith dominated in their recent collegiate game
Vicksburg natives Davian Williams and Jae’la Smith both had good performances in their collegiate basketball games last week. Smith is in her freshman year at Pearl River Community College and Williams is a freshman at Alcorn State University. Both were named VDN’s 2024 Basketball Players of the Year in their senior year of high school.
Jae’la Smith:
Pearl River Community College defeated Delgado Community College 76-49 on Saturday. Four players scored in double digits, including Smith who finished the night with 10 points. She also had two steals and two rebounds.
Saturday’s win gave PRCC a 9-0 record. Smith is now averaging 5.6 points per game and grabbing 3.2 rebounds per game. PRCC will travel to play Coastal Alabama-North on Tuesday.
Davian Willams:
Davian Williams was one of four Alcorn State basketball players to score in double digits on Saturday in a loss to No.21 Oklahoma. He had his best performance all year as he finished with 13 points and seven assists. He also snatched three rebounds.
Alcorn will travel to play Rice on December 16 in Houston, Texas.
Local Athletes:
Vicksburg High School graduates Layla Carter and Janiah Caples helped Mississippi Delta Community College to a 68-60 win over Northwest Mississippi Community College last Monday.
Caples scored 11 points and brought in five steals and nine rebounds. Carter also scored 11 points in the win and finished with a double-double after grabbing 12 rebounds as well.
Mississippi Delta Community College will travel to Louisiana State University at Eunice on Tuesday. They now have an 8-0 record.
Hinds Community College has not updated their recent games at the time of this report.
