VHS took down Port Gibson on Saturday

Vicksburg, Miss.-Vicksburg High School basketball teams defeated Port Gibson on Saturday. The boys and girls team picked up wins to end their weekend on a high note.

Girls:

The Missy Gators advanced to 8-3 on the season after winning 60-19. Cynia Johnson was unstoppable in the first quarter as she scored 14 points alone. Zion Harvey also stepped in to get on the board in the first half along with Jada Erwin.

A running clock was enforced in the second half as Ny’Keria knocked down a 3-pointer.

Johnson led with 26 points in the win. Harvey put up 10 points and Watson added eight. Raylyn Parson scored six points and Jada Erwin finished with three. Mya Stewart, Smiley Jeffers, and Jordan Grace all scored two points.

Boys:

The Gators pulled off a 61-52 win against the Blue Waves as they improved to 7-6 on the year.

“We gotta get better but we’re still young and we had a few mistakes but our big guy(Jaquez Marshall) is getting a lot better and they’re starting to see what it is they we need,” VHS Head Coach Kelvin Carter said.

Jadarius Henderson controlled the show for the Gators as he finished the game with 16 points. Jaquez Jones also scored in double digits as he ended the game with 10 points while Javeion Perkins put up nine points and Marshall added eight on the board. Brycen Jones scored seven points while Mincer Minor IV contributed five. Marlyn Foy and DeCorey Knight Jr. both scored three points.

For PG, Charles Dampeer Jr. led with 13 points and Kendarion Owens finished with 11. Dameon White also scored 10 points.
