Lady Vikes fall to Lake Cormorant in game 1

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School’s softball team fell 8-1 to Lake Cormorant in Game 1 of its first-round playoff series. Defense dominated most of the contest, with the two teams combining for nine hits.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning, when Lake Cormorant took a 1-0 lead on an RBI by Burns. Warren Central answered in the bottom half of the inning after Mary Clell Allred reached third base on an error. KK Williamson followed with a ground ball that allowed Allred to score, tying the game at 1-1 heading into the final inning.

Lake Cormorant pulled away in the seventh inning. After a pair of hit batters led to a pitching change, Lake Cormorant scored three runs on walks and added to its total, finishing with seven runs in the inning.

Williamson led Warren Central with two hits and an RBI. Allred and KeKe McKay each recorded a hit, while Emily Muirhead had one strikeout.

The Lady Vikes will travel to Lake Cormorant on Thursday for Game 2 and must win to keep their season alive.
