VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — The big day has arrived for Maddy Pant.

The Warren Central High School softball standout officially signed a collegiate scholarship to continue her academic and athletic career at Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas. Pant put pen to paper to make her commitment official and secure her future at the next level.

“I’m really excited and ready to meet my new teammates and build better bonds and have fun in college while playing the sport I love,” Pant said.

The senior pitcher first committed to Lyon College in July following a successful junior season in 2025. She chose Lyon over offers from Wesleyan College, Mississippi Delta Community College, East Central Community College and Arkansas State University Mid-South.

“I think it was the best fit for me, and they have really good coaches who take care of their players,” Pant said.

Pant has been a key contributor for the Lady Vikes throughout her high school career. As a sophomore in 2023, she emerged as a dominant force, striking out 144 batters while also recording 29 hits, 46 RBIs and two home runs at the plate.

She followed that performance with another strong season, helping Warren Central finish second in district play. Pant posted a .318 batting average with 21 hits and 24 RBIs, while adding 101 strikeouts in the circle.

One of her most memorable performances came against Ridgeland, when she struck out 14 batters and tossed a no-hitter in a 22-0 victory.

Pant credited her success to her faith and the support of her parents, Jeremiah and Amy.

“I want to thank them for always being there through my emotional times during softball,” she said. “I know I couldn’t do this without them or God.”

Although Pant has officially signed, she still has her senior season ahead under head coach Brian Ellis, with the season set to begin next month.

“I just want to pitch to the best of my ability and finish this year strong,” she said.
