New Vicksburg Animal Shelter officially opens Wednesday
VICKSBURG, Miss. – The new Vicksburg Animal Shelter will officially open it’s doors tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8, 2025 after moving the animals from the old shelter over the holiday season.
“We’re so excited to announce that we have officially moved all of the animals to the new shelter at 65 Cedars Rd. You’re welcome to come visit us if you like starting Wednesday, but please be patient with us while we work all the kinks out & learn our new way of doing things,” said the shelter in a statement.
The $2 million facility at 65 Cedars Rd, approved in October 2021, replaces the aging shelter on Old Mill Road in the Kings Community, which faced persistent flooding and space limitations for years.
The new shelter features four cat rooms, three dog rooms, an intake and treatment area, upgraded cat cages, insulated dog doors, and a private room for meeting animals in a calm environment away from other animals. Significantly, the facility consolidates operations into a single, centralized building, creating a more efficient and inviting space for animals, staff, and visitors alike.
The shelter will be open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. -3:30 p.m.
