Notice of intent to adopt amended garbage and rubbish collection and disposal ordinance

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A public hearing will be held on Monday, April 7 at 9 a.m. in the Warren County board room regarding the Warren County Board of Supervisors adoption of an amended garbage and rubbish collection and disposal ordinance, originally adopted on April 18, 1994.

NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADOPT AMENDED GARBAGE AND RUBBISH COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL ORDINANCE

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, in Section 19, Chapter 5, of the Mississippi Code of 1972, Annotated, empowers the County to adopt regulations designed to promote the public health, safety and general welfare of its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to the statutes of the State of Mississippi, Section 19-5-17, the County Board of Supervisors is authorized to provide for the collection and disposal of garbage, to make rules and regulations for collection and disposal, and to establish and collect fees; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to the statutes of the State of Mississippi, Section 19-5-21, the County Board of Supervisors has the authority to levy an ad valorem tax related to the garbage collection and disposal system; and

WHEREAS, on March 17, 2025, based on the authority vested in it pursuant to the above-referenced statutes, and finding it to be in the best interests of the citizens of Warren County, Mississippi, the Board of Supervisors resolved to amend its existing Garbage and Rubbish Collection and Disposal Ordinance adopted on April 18, 1994, to the form attached as Exhibit A to its resolution adopted on March 17, 2025 and kept on file at the Warren County Chancery Clerk’s office for public review; and

WHEREAS, the Warren County Board of Supervisors desires to adopt such Amended Garbage and Rubbish Collection and Disposal Ordinance in the form kept on file at the Warren County Chancery Clerk’s office for public review and to set for public hearing consideration of such ordinance to be held April 7, 2025; and notice of said hearing shall be posted in The Vicksburg Post on or before March 23, 2025, being at least fifteen (15) days prior to the public hearing.

BE IT THEREFORE ORDERED AND RESOLVED BY THE WARREN COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS THAT A PUBLIC HEARING SHALL BE HELD AT 9:00 A.M. ON THE 7th DAY OF APRIL, 2025, WHICH HEARING SHALL BE ADVERTISED IN THE VICKSBURG POST AT LEAST FIFTEEN (15) DAYS PRIOR, AFTER WHICH HEARING, THE WARREN COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS INTENDS TO ADOPT THE AMENDED GARBAGE AND RUBBISH COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL ORDINANCE FOR WARREN COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS ATTACHED.
