Officer involved shooting in Gulfport

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officerinvolved shooting involving the Gulfport Police Department that occurred on May 22nd, 2024.

Narcotics officers with the Gulfport Police Department observed a suspicious subject walking
along Dedeaux Road in Gulfport, Mississippi. When officers attempted to make contact with the
subject, the subject fled and then presented a weapon towards the officers. The officers then
discharged their weapons striking the subject. The subject was transported to a local hospital and did not survive his injuries.

The officer received no serious physical injuries.

This information is preliminary and subject to change. MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
