PCA names Masterson and Jung as the Female and Male Athletes of the Year

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Porter’s Chapel Academy has honored seniors Sophie Masterson and Jase Jung as the 2024 Female and Male Athletes of the Year. The awards were announced during the school’s annual athletics banquet held earlier this month.

Sophie Masterson:

Masterson stood out as a versatile athlete for the Lady Eagles, competing in basketball, softball, cheerleading, and tennis during her senior year.

On the basketball court, she averaged 10.4 points per game and earned a spot in the MAIS All-Star Game. She was also recognized as the team’s Co-MVP. In softball, Masterson played a key role as the starting pitcher, finishing the season with 50 strikeouts and receiving the Most Improved Defensive Player award.

Her contributions didn’t stop there. Masterson was also honored as the Co-Cheerleader of the Year, showcasing her commitment and talent across multiple sports.

Jase Jung:

Jung made headlines throughout the season with dominant performances in football, basketball, and track. He shattered multiple Warren County football records and became one of PCA’s standout scholarship athletes from the Class of 2025.

Jung rushed for 3,712 yards and 48 touchdowns during the regular season. Over his high school career, he totaled 6,422 rushing yards and 87 touchdowns. His remarkable achievements earned him several honors, including Vicksburg Daily News’ Offensive Player of the Year, the Golden Helmet Award, and selection to the MAIS All-State Team.

In addition, Jung was named Best Defensive Player on the basketball team and earned the Top Sprinter Award on the track team.

He will continue his football career at Simpson University this fall.
