Salvation Army Rings In Red Kettle Campaign at Vicksburg Mall Nov. 22
VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Salvation Army invites you to join its annual holiday celebration, kicking off its largest and most recognized fundraiser, the Christmas Red Kettle Campaign. On November 22, 2024, The Salvation Army in Vicksburg will launch this season’s Christmas campaign with the inaugural ringing of its iconic red bell, heralding the spirit of hope and generosity that defines its mission and commitment to “Do The Most Good.” The community is invited to the kick-off celebration at 6 p.m. at the Vicksburg Mall at Pemberton Square.
“We are excited to ring in the holiday season with this event,” said Major Janna Torgerson of The Salvation Army. “We want to remind everyone that The Salvation Army provides many services and programs to those in need right here in the Vicksburg area. When you give to a Red Kettle, you are helping your neighbors because those donations stay local.”
Last year, the organization provided various programs and services to over 800 families in crisis. The Salvation Army predicts that there will be a significant increase in requests for assistance as families continue to face high food, utility, and housing costs.
“Many families are still in need,” Major Torgerson said. “We’ve set this year’s fundraising goal at $50,000 to meet the increased needs this holiday season and beyond.”
The Red Kettle Campaign kick-off event will also highlight more convenient giving options for potential donors. All Red Kettles now feature QR codes, allowing shoppers to make quick and secure donations using their phones. The Kettles can accept other forms of payment, including credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Venmo.
“For those who prefer the ease of online giving, please visit vicksburgkettle.org,” Major Torgerson stated. “There is also an option for supporters to host online Red Kettle fundraisers by choosing the ‘Fundraising’ option, or even host a Red Kettle at their place of business.”
One of the primary programs the Red Kettle initiative funds is the Angel Tree program, which provides gifts and clothing to children, seniors, and families who would otherwise go without. Last year, the Salvation Army provided toys and essentials for over 800 children in need.
“Red Kettle donations can help ensure every child gets to experience the joy and miracle of Christmas,” stated Major Torgerson. “We hope everyone will come out to help us get the holiday season started.”
