VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A load of laundry prompted a Vicksburg Fire Department response Friday morning at the Keyway Coin Laundry Supersudz, 2421 Clay St.

Interim Vicksburg Fire Chief Trey Martin said firefighters responded just after 7 a.m. this morning to reports of a fire at the laundromat. Crews found a load of towels, which had been removed from dryer No. 42 and placed in a basket, smouldering.

The smouldering towels were quickly extinguished, and the building was ventilated to clear smoke.

Martin said the likely cause was spontaneous combustion from possible flammable residue, such as oil or grease, in the fabric.

No injuries were reported.
