The O-Line at VHS is ready for action
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—The offensive linemen of the Vicksburg High School football team are ready for action this year with plenty of experience returning this season.
The Gators return three starting offensive linemen from last year’s squad, providing momentum for head coach Christopher Lacey heading into the new season.
“The big word is development,” Lacey said. “To see them go through those rough bumps and patches and see what they’ve come to now is exciting.”
Shaun Archer Jr., Jaydon Lee and Darius Stamps are the three returning starters, each bringing valuable experience to the trenches. All three have received offers to play at the next level.
“We’re coming into the season with a new mindset, and we’ve been working hard to have big success,” Archer said. “The O-line is definitely our biggest strength. Altogether, we’re lifting over 4,000 pounds combined.”
Archer has received offers from Alcorn State, Mississippi Valley State and Clark Atlanta, along with several junior colleges.
Stamps has also earned his place as one of the team’s lead blockers.
“My footwork has gotten better, and I’m a lot more comfortable at the right tackle position now,” he said.
Stamps holds at least three offers, including from East Mississippi Community College and Mississippi Delta Community College.
Lee has made major strides over the past year, catching the attention of college recruiters. He now has three offers, including one from Hinds Community College after a strong showing at a summer camp.
To further strengthen the line, Karter Thomas and Corey Wilkerson were moved from the defensive line to offense. The duo combined for nearly 40 tackles last season and are expected to bring toughness and athleticism to the offensive front.
The unit will be coached by assistant Andre Bennett, a former Vicksburg High standout who went on to star at Grambling State University.
The Gators open the 2025 season on Aug. 29 when they travel to face Natchez High School.
