Tornado watch

VICKSBURG, Miss – The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has issued a Tornado Watch for our area until 10 p.m. this evening.

Severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and tornadoes are likely today, mainly this afternoon through this evening. A strong tornado can’t be ruled out across southeastern portions of the area. Hail up to quarter size is possible in some storms. Isolated severe storms cannot be ruled out during the morning.

A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for a tornado to form in the area. While a watch doesn’t necessarily mean severe weather will occur, it’s important to be prepared.

Be Weather Aware – Tornado Watch in our area

Be prepared if weather conditions worsen and a tornado threatens in our area. Do the following:

  • Review your emergency plan
  • Secure outdoor objects that could blow away
  • Gather supplies like batteries, flashlights, water, nonperishable food, and medicines
  • Identify a safe room or shelter
  • Have a way to receive severe weather alerts

You can watch the storm in real time from the Vicksburg Daily News Live Stream from the top of the Old Courthouse Museum. You can track the storm on the Vicksburg Daily News Weather Radar.

If a Tornado Warning is issued
