Two women arrested in Mississippi for human trafficking
Tupelo Police have arrested two Memphis women and charged them with Human Trafficking after a report of prostitution was investigated.
“On July 8th, 2024 officers received information of possible prostitution at a local motel located inside the Tupelo city limits. Officers responded to the hotel and made contact with three individuals in a room.” said Tupelo Chief of Police John Quaka. “An investigation was quickly started and two females were ultimately arrested.” Terraneika Poplar (19, Memphis) and Destiney Plummer (20, Memphis) were arrested and charged with Human Trafficking.
“Tupelo Police with the assistance of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services and the Center for Violence Prevention were able to make the arrests and rescue a female juvenile at the scene.” said Quaka. “This is a despicable crime and TPD will use all available resources to make sure these offenders, or any future offenders, are brought to justice. It saddens me that this type of crime occurs.”
On July 9th, 2024, Poplar and Plummer were presented to Tupelo Municipal Court for their initial appearance. Judge Willie Allen denied bond on both.
The rescue and arrests were started by a simple report of possible prostitution. TPD encourages anyone in the community with information about crimes like this or other crimes to contact TPD at 662-841-6491, tpdrecords@tupeloms.gov or Crime Stoppers of North East Mississippi at 1-800-773-TIPS.
