Viking seniors Green, Artman ready to make final season count
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School seniors Landon Green and Jonah Artman are among the Vikings’ most notable returning players as they prepare for their final high school football season. The veteran standouts are just two weeks away from kickoff, with the season opener set for Aug. 29 on the road against Clinton.
Green was a key presence at linebacker in 2024, one of the few defensive starters returning this season. As a junior, he totaled 63 tackles and one interception, earning All-County and All-District honors. He has received four scholarship offers, including his first Division I offer from the University of Tennessee at Martin. Green said he is eager to silence doubters.
“I’m ready for us to prove some people wrong,” Green said. “A lot of people think just because we lost a lot of players from last year that we won’t be the same, but we’re ready to show them differently.”
Green also expects to contribute on offense this season, taking snaps at running back. “I love it and I just want to help my team win at the end of the day,” he said.
Artman, the Vikings’ record-breaking kicker, set the Warren County career field goal mark last season when he surpassed the previous record of 24, set in 1985. He now holds the record with 27, a total that includes a 57-yard field goal. His resume features All-Star Game selections, preseason All-American honors and three scholarship offers.
“I know we have a good bunch this year and I’m excited to see what we accomplish,” Artman said. “Although the records are great, I’ll be happy if we score all touchdowns or whatever to win us some games this year.”
Both players will take the field under head coach Josh Morgan as the Vikings aim to build on their tradition of success in 2025.
