VJHS finishes perfect regular season with 36-14 win over Warren Central
Vicksburg Junior High School completed a perfect regular season with a 36-14 win over Warren Central, finishing 6-0. The Gators will now prepare for the Little Six Championship against Byram Middle School next week.

Vicksburg Junior High School capped off an undefeated regular season with a 36-14 victory over crosstown rival Warren Central, finishing 6-0 and turning its attention to next week’s Little Six Championship.
The Gators struck on their opening drive when quarterback D’Chance Thigpen connected with Sam Jackson for a 45-yard touchdown pass. Thigpen ran in the 2-point conversion to give VJHS an early 8-0 lead.
The Gators’ defense quickly went to work as Malcolm Turner came up with a sack. Before the end of the first quarter, Kaleb Sims broke free for a 20-yard run as VJHS carried its 8-0 advantage into the second quarter.
Warren Central’s Tyler Ainsworth recorded a tackle in the backfield early in the second quarter, but the Gators quickly found their way back into scoring position. Turner broke free for a 21-yard run to set up Thigpen’s 2-yard touchdown run. Cam Pickett caught the 2-point conversion to extend the lead to 16-0.
Late in the second quarter, Sims broke loose for a 47-yard run. Thigpen followed with an 8-yard touchdown run at the buzzer to send the Gators into halftime with a 22-0 lead.
VJHS continued moving the ball coming out of halftime as Sims hauled in a 30-yard pass to put the Gators in good field position. Jackson then ran in the next touchdown to push the lead to 28-0.
Warren Central responded when Cor’Darius Miles returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 28-6.
The Vikings regained possession a few plays later after recovering a fumble at the 3-yard line. Antonio Williams Jr. delivered a big hit on a Warren Central ball carrier, but the Vikings eventually found the end zone when quarterback Shandell Lockridge Jr. connected with Damion Carroll on a quick touchdown pass to make it 28-14.
Vicksburg capped the scoring near the end of the third quarter when Sims scored on a 10-yard run. Turner ran in the 2-point conversion to give the Gators their final 36-14 advantage.
VJHS, led by head coach Larry Carter Jr., clinched the West Division title last week and will now play Byram Middle School on Tuesday for the Little Six Championship.
