Warren Central, St. Aloysius boys earn soccer wins Monday night
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Warren Central and St. Aloysius boys’ soccer teams each picked up victories Monday night, with the Vikings edging Callaway 2-1 and the Flashes rolling past Adams County Christian School 7-1.
Warren Central earned its win while playing shorthanded, according to head coach Greg Head. The Vikings were without two of their top players but adjusted their formation to counter Callaway’s strongest offensive threat.
“We played Callaway without two of our better players, but the rest of the team stepped up,” Head said. “We changed our formation to adjust for their best player.”
Jonah Artman scored the game-winning goal for Warren Central and also contributed defensively, spending time at both midfield and defense to help contain Callaway’s top scorer. Luke Bond also shifted into defensive roles during the match to provide additional support. Eriam Diaz-Mejias added the Vikings’ other goal.
Anthony Streif delivered a strong performance, recording four saves to help preserve the victory. Head also credited several younger players for stepping up in key moments throughout the match.
St. Aloysius:
St. Aloysius dominated offensively in its 7-1 varsity win over Adams County Christian School. Cole Butler led the Flashes with two goals, while Mason Bourne, Davis Burroughs, Jack Dickerson, Carter Smithhart and Henry Bell each scored one goal.
Holden Davidson anchored the defense in goal for St. Aloysius, finishing with three saves and stopping a penalty kick.
The Flashes’ junior varsity team also earned a win, defeating Adams County Christian School 5-3. Jase Babb recorded a hat trick with three goals, while Blake Thurman and Cash Ferrell each added one goal in the JV victory.
