Warren Central, Vicksburg earn solid results at Laurel Tournament
LAUREL, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central and Vicksburg High Schools both turned in strong performances on Saturday at the Laurel Tournament, as the two Warren County soccer programs continued their early-season slates on the road.
Warren Central’s boys’ team collected two victories to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Vikings opened the day with a 1-0 win over Forest County Agricultural High School, thanks to a goal from Jacob Porter.
In their second match, Warren Central defeated South Jones 3-1. Porter led the way again with two goals, while Eriam Diaz-Mejias added one. Goalkeeper Mahamed Shuaibi recorded two saves to help secure the win. The Vikings will look to keep the momentum going when they travel to face Florence on Tuesday.
Vicksburg High also competed in the tournament, finishing with a draw and a close loss. The Gators tied Wayne County 2-2 behind two goals from Cannon Jackson. Later in the day, Vicksburg fell 2-1 to host Laurel High School, with Dacion Brown scoring the team’s lone goal.
The Gators now hold a 1-2-1 record and will return home on Tuesday to host North Pike High School.
