VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School’s ninth grade football team blew out Northwest Rankin 46-14 Tuesday night. Quarterback Cameron Zellous had a field day, throwing five touchdowns and running for another in the win.

“We executed, but we had a lot of penalties that we have to fix,” Zellous said. “We wanted to be 1-0, so we came out and did what we needed to do to make that happen.”

The game started slow for WC as both teams leaned on the run. Rylan Montgomery, Jashad Williams and Glen Thomas delivered big hits for the Vikings in the first quarter to force a punt.

On offense, Zellous scrambled before connecting with Braylen Selvy for a 70-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion was unsuccessful.

Just before the quarter ended, JJ Williams recovered a fumble and Henry Trisby grabbed an interception.

Northwest Rankin answered early in the second quarter to take a 7-6 lead, but WC quickly responded. Zellous threw a touchdown to Jordan Taylor, then followed with a 50-yard strike to Doss Morgan after Patrick Southerland’s kickoff was recovered by the Vikings. Selvy ran in the 2-point conversion for an 18-6 advantage.

Morgan later intercepted a pass, setting up a Zellous-to-Jordan Younger touchdown. Selvy again added the conversion to push the lead to 26-7.

With 2:05 left in the half, Taylor scooped a fumble and returned it for a score to make it 32-14.

After halftime, Morgan’s kick return set up a short rushing touchdown by Zellous for a 40-14 lead. The Vikings continued to roll, with Trisby hauling in several long passes and Selvy dominating the run game. Zellous capped the night with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Trisby for the final 46-14 margin.

Warren Central will travel to Rosa Scott next Tuesday. The eight grade team took a 6-0 loss to NWR.
