49th Annual Vicksburg Homecoming Benevolent Society Scholarship Banquet to take place next month
Vicksburg, Miss – Former and current Vicksburg residents are invited to the 49th Annual Scholarship Banquet next month at the Vicksburg Convention Center.
Each year, the Vicksburg Benevolent Society issues scholarships to recent graduates. Last year, the society awarded sixteen $500 scholarships. Humanitarian of the Year, Business of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Awards were also given out.
Nineteen $500 scholarships from 2024 Warren County graduates will be awarded at this year’s banquet. Humanitarian of the Year, Business of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement awards will also announced. The winners from the June 15 Oratorical and Essay Competition, at the Vicksburg Business Center will be acknowledged at the banquet.
Club President Willie Glasper said he was excited for this year’s banquet, but wished more younger people were involved. “It’s hard to get these young people into whats going.” he said.
The celebration begins on Friday, July 12 at 8:00 pm at the American Legion Post 213, 1619 Main Street. Friday’s scholarship and awards banquet will be held at the Vicksburg Convention Center, 1600 Dr. Briggs Hopson, Jr. Blvd. A farewell worship service will be held on Sunday, July 14 at 9:00 am at Greater Grove Street M.B. Church, 2715 Alcorn Drive.
The Vicksburg Homecoming Benevolent Society was organized in the summer of 1975. Since that time they have recognized hundreds of law enforcement and firefighters. They also present Annual Scholarships to local high school students, hold oratorical competitions, and host an annual Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway along with numerous other things to support our community.
