VICKSBURG, Miss. – Seven Days for the Troops received a $750 donation from Riverwalk Casino at the sold-out Southern Heritage Air Foundation’s annual “Thanks”giving Veteran’s lunch held yesterday, November 26, 2024.

Scott Burns, founder of Seven Days for the Troops was grateful for the donation and listed the organization’s accomplishments with funds that are donated to the program.

“First of all, I want to say ‘Thank you, guys.’ for your donation. I remember earlier this year you had us survey to ask what we were able to do with the funds that you gave us in the past,” said Burns. “Last year Seven Days for the Troops was able to provide a tiny home for a veteran, sixteen all-terrain track wheel chairs, which were about $16,000 a piece, and we fed over one-hundred veterans for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. You guys do this out of the kindness of your heart, but I don’t think you ever get to see all the work that is done because of your generosity.”

7 Days for the Troops began as a grassroots fundraising event in 2006, fueled by a profound duty to give back to those who have served our country. What started as a single event has since grown into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that assists disabled veterans with unmet needs.

While the annual “Thanks”giving lunch does aim to serve veterans a free meal at the event, gift cards for the purchase of a ham or turkey are also donated.

For over ten years, the Southern Heritage Air Foundation has partnered with the Radio People of Vicksburg’s 92.7 The Touch and Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation’s ‘Steve Harvey Turkey Give’ to purchase gift cards to go towards the purchase of a turkey or ham for Veterans each Thanksgiving.

“We want to thank Steve Harvey for partnering with our radio stations so that we can give me back to our veterans. It’s all about serving those who served,” said Shaggy with River 101.

The annual event is held at the Southern Heritage Air Museum at the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport in Mound, Louisiana.
