Spy games and free popcorn: Hopscotch hits the Strand

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — David Rorick Photography is sponsoring a special screening of Hopscotch (1980) this Saturday, July 12 at 7 p.m. at The Strand Theatre, 717 Clay St. in downtown Vicksburg.

The film stars the legendary duo of Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson in a nimble, offbeat tale of international espionage and sharp-edged wit, directed by British filmmaker Ronald Neame.

Adapted from Brian Garfield’s best-selling novel, Hopscotch follows Miles Kendig (Matthau), a retired CIA agent turned rogue who threatens to publish his tell-all memoir and spill the secrets of the world’s top intelligence agencies. With the help of a stylish Viennese widow (Jackson), Kendig stays one step ahead of the bureaucrats chasing him down—while having the time of his life.

Set against a score of Mozart and framed as a lighthearted satire of Cold War spy thrillers, Hopscotch is a sharply written, genre-defying gem.

Advance tickets are $9 at Highway 61 Coffeehouse, or $10 at the door.

And yes—the popcorn is free.
