VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Vicksburg High School linebacker Wallyss Curry is gearing up for a strong start to the 2025 football season as the Gators’ first game quickly approaches.

Curry, a junior, made an impact as a sophomore last season and is looking to take an even bigger step this year.

“I’m feeling great about this year because we have a lot of talent and people we can use this year, so I feel we can be dominant,” Curry said.

Known for his ability to fly across the field and make plays, Curry has shifted his offseason focus toward improving his coverage skills.

“I hurt my toe in the first game last year, but [I’m] back better than ever,” he said.

Curry earned All-District honors in 2024 after finishing with 40 tackles, including 29 solo stops and 11 assists. He also recorded two tackles for loss, one interception, and scored one touchdown. He was also named to the Vicksburg Daily News All-County Team.

Under the leadership of new head coach Christopher Lacey, the Gators enter the 2025 season with plenty of returning experience, including Curry, who is confident in the team’s ability to rack up wins.

“Our number one goal is to be better,” Curry said.

Vicksburg High School will open the season on Aug. 29 with a road game against Natchez High School.
