Vicksburg claims five state titles at meet
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg High School’s boys and girls track and field teams combined for five state championships at Saturday’s state meet, led by a dominant showing from the Missy Gators, who accounted for four titles. The boys added one championship to cap the day.
The Vicksburg girls finished third overall, powered by multiple standout performances and the boys came in fourth. Amiyah Hall led the charge with two state titles in the sprints, winning both the 100 meters and 200 meters.
“I feel great knowing I worked hard for this and I came out on top,” Hall said. “I was fully prepared even though it’s been raining all week, but I still had to practice for this win.”
Zion Knox added another championship in the triple jump, while also placing in the long jump.
“This is normal because this is my sport,” Knox said. “This happened because my mama cooked some beef tips and rice because I asked for it, and now we here.”
McKenzy Edmond secured a state title in the high jump after finishing second a year ago.
“I feel great because it’s a comeback from last year after finishing second,” Edmond said.
On the boys side, Jayden Woods claimed the lone state championship with a first-place finish in the discus.
