TALLULAH, La. (VDN)Porter’s Chapel Academy took part in a preseason football scrimmage Friday night at Tallulah Academy, facing Tallulah Academy, Tensas Academy and Briarfield Academy.

Each team was given 20 offensive and 20 defensive plays as a tune-up before the regular season kicks off next Friday.

“We got some really good looks and we were able to rotate a lot of guys,” PCA Head Coach Blake Purvis said. “I was proud of our effort and the way we were finishing plays on defense.”

In the opening matchup against Tallulah Academy, PCA’s defense held firm early before Trojans running back JT McDaniel broke loose for a 25-yard touchdown run. McDaniel added a 2-yard score a few plays later to give TA the early edge.

The Eagles responded when Schaffer Bell hauled in a 37-yard pass from quarterback Chad Fuson, setting up a 10-yard touchdown run by Auston Moore. Tallulah’s Jay Olivoe then came up with an interception to halt another PCA drive.

PCA regained momentum on a 45-yard touchdown run from Myles Randle, tying the score at 12-12. On the Eagles’ final play, Fuson connected with Lakelan Pecanty for a 50-yard touchdown to close out the scrimmage with an 18-12 edge.

PCA also scrimmaged against Briarfield and Tensas Academy later in the evening in competitive matchups.

The Eagles will officially open their season Aug. 22 on the road against Kemper Academy.
