RALEIGH, N.C. (VDN) — Sharkey County native Jeremiah Johnson is now suiting up for North Carolina State University after three seasons at Georgia State.

Johnson, a defensive back, announced in December he was leaving Georgia State, where he emerged as one of the team’s top defenders. He drew transfer interest from Memphis, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt, but ultimately chose to continue his career with the Wolfpack.

In three seasons at Georgia State, Johnson recorded 150 tackles, nine pass deflections and two interceptions.

Before his time with the Panthers, Johnson played two years at Mississippi Delta Community College, finishing with 31 tackles.

At the high school level, Johnson was a standout at South Delta in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. He helped lead the Bulldogs to a 10-2 season in 2019, posting 123 tackles and seven interceptions as a senior.
