Vicksburg Alderman sponsors free legal clinic for seniors
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg’s Ward 1 Alderman Thomas “TJ” Mayfield has announced he is sponsoring an upcoming free Legal Assistance Day for seniors aged 60 and older, taking place this Friday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Jesse Brent Lower Mississippi River Museum located at 910 Washington Street, Vicksburg, MS, 39183.
This community event, presented in partnership with the Mississippi Center for Legal Services Corporation (MCLSC), aims to provide older residents with direct access to civil legal support, free of charge. No appointment is necessary, and services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Each month I host events for our senior citizens that include activities such as line dancing, bingo, and activities that encourage healthy living, but this month we want to ensure that our seniors have the resources, support, and access they deserve,” said Alderman Mayfield. “Several seniors in our community are on fixed incomes, and I’m hoping that giving them free access to one-on-one attorney time with the Mississippi Center for Legal Services Corporation can help them get their legal affairs in order.”
All legal issues covered will be strictly civil matters, including wills & estate planning, public benefits & disability, consumer issues, foreclosure & bankruptcy, expungements, and additional civil legal needs. Attendees must be at least 60 years old that resides in Warren County, be a U.S. Citizen and cannot be currently represented by an attorney. Attendees should bring any documentation that they have available for any legal issues. MCLSC does not handle criminal, immigration or traffic related matters.
