VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — A Vicksburg man had his previously suspended sentence revoked and was ordered Thursday to serve eight years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Andrew Patrick Tapp appeared in Warren County Circuit Court after prosecutors said he violated the terms of his suspended sentence. Earlier this year, Tapp pleaded guilty to shooting someone and received an eight-year suspended sentence after the victim declined to cooperate with authorities.

In October, Tapp was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, and a protective order was issued for the victim. Two days later, he violated that order by calling the victim from the Warren County Jail, authorities said. Prosecutors said he then used a third party to attempt another call, resulting in an additional violation.

Tapp, represented by defense attorney Lane Campbell, testified that he contacted the victim only to tell her he would not reach out again.

Assistant District Attorney Branan Southerland requested that Tapp be ordered to serve the original sentence. Judge Toni Terrett agreed and imposed the full eight-year term.
