VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central Junior High School’s boys’ basketball team is moving on to the Little Six Tournament after edging out Vicksburg Junior High School 31-30 in a down-to-the-wire finish.

The Vikings opened the game on a strong 7-0 run before the Gators found a rhythm and answered back. By the second half, the matchup turned into a back-and-forth battle, with VJHS briefly taking the lead. Warren Central, however, regained control in the final minute to secure the one-point victory and extend its postseason hopes.

Michael Banks Jr. led WCJHS with 14 points, while Jayden Green added eight. Jaiden Jones and Gayvin contributed five points each. Mike Davis and Darius O’Neal both finished with two points, and Troy Thomas knocked down a free throw to round out the scoring.

For Vicksburg, Kaleb Sims posted 12 points and Peyton Walker added eight. Brandon Smith Jr. scored four points, and Massiah Robinson finished with three as the Gators came up just short in the tight contest.
