Brandon Kincaid: VDN’s 2026 Baseball Head Coach of the Year
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
After taking over a program that needed a spark, Brandon Kincaid has helped guide Vicksburg High School baseball back toward relevance.
In just his second season at the helm, Kincaid led the Gators to nearly a .500 record, doubled the team’s win total from the previous year and secured a postseason appearance. The turnaround has earned him the Vicksburg Daily News 2026 Baseball Coach of the Year award.

“Overall, we did pretty good and reached most of our goals,” Kincaid said. “The coaching staff did a great job of coming in and working with the guys, but we’re still working to get better for next year.”
While Kincaid is the leader of the program, he quickly pointed to his coaching staff — Joshua Sterling, Nick Carson and Victor Parker — as key contributors to the team’s success.
“My coaching staff really jumped in hard,” Kincaid said. “Coach Carson has been here with me the whole time. Coach Sterling was a gift last year, and Coach Parker did great with helping the younger kids.”
The Gators opened the season with a commanding 15-2 victory over Raymond and continued to show growth throughout the year. VHS picked up notable wins over Yazoo City, Murrah and Leake Central while overcoming the loss of two major pitchers from the previous season. At the plate, the Gators featured one hitter who batted above .500 and another who finished at .484.
The season’s accomplishments were a sign of progress, but Kincaid believes the foundation being built behind the scenes may be even more important.
“I see our program building and getting better,” he said. “When I started here, we didn’t have a lot of seventh- and eighth-graders, but now we have a great foundation with our youth and are getting them prepared as they grow.”
Before arriving at Vicksburg High, Kincaid enjoyed success as a coach at Yazoo City High School. Now, after two years with the Gators, he has helped restore confidence and competitiveness within the program.
“This is exciting to win this award this early in my career at VHS, but I thank God for this opportunity along with the administrators and booster club,” Kincaid said. “This is all great, but if it wasn’t for my players and coaches, I wouldn’t be here. My family has been my biggest support system because they take care of the things outside the home.”
With most of the roster expected to return next season, the future appears bright for the Gators. What began as a rebuilding effort has evolved into a program with momentum, belief and a growing expectation of success.
