Warren Central rallies past Florence 8-7 in extra innings; VHS fell to Yazoo County

FLORENCE, Miss.(VDN) — The Warren Central High School softball team mounted a comeback to defeat Florence 8-7 on the road Tuesday night.

Trailing 4-0 midway through the game, the Lady Vikes broke through in the fourth inning when Anzley Keen delivered a sacrifice to cut the deficit to 4-1.

Warren Central regained momentum in the fifth inning. MK Ferguson and KeKe McKay opened with singles before Maddy Pant followed with a two-run single to trim the score to 4-3. Keen then delivered a clutch two-run triple to give the Lady Vikes a 5-4 lead.

McKay added an RBI in the sixth inning to extend the advantage to 6-4. Florence answered with a walk and a single to tie the game at 6-6.

Neither team scored in the seventh inning, forcing extra innings. In the top of the eighth, McKay and Keen each hit RBI singles to put Warren Central ahead 8-6. Florence managed one run in the bottom half of the inning, but the Lady Vikes’ defense secured the 8-7 victory.

McKay finished 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Keen recorded four RBIs. Pant had two RBIs, and both she and KK Williamson collected two hits. Emily Muirhead, Ferguson and Addi Mullen each added a hit. Pant also struck out four batters.

Vicksburg High falls to Yazoo County

The Vicksburg High School softball team dropped a 19-4 decision to Yazoo County.

Shandrea Lockridge hit a triple. Camden McGloster finished with one hit and one RBI. Kaci Coleman recorded two hits and two RBIs in the loss.
