Warren Central rallies past Wesson 10-6
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — The Warren Central High School softball team defeated Wesson 10-6 on Thursday night.
The Lady Vikes struck first with two runs in the opening inning. KeKe McKay started the rally with a triple, and Maddy Pant followed with an RBI to give Warren Central an early lead. Wesson answered quickly, taking a 3-2 advantage in the second inning.
McKay delivered again in the third inning with a double that tied the game at 3-3. Neither team scored again until the fifth when Anzley Keen and Emily Muirhead each drove in a run to put Warren Central ahead. Wesson responded with a strong inning at the plate and took a 6-5 lead by the end of the fifth.
The Lady Vikes shut things down defensively after that, holding Wesson scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Warren Central regained control in the sixth inning with three runs. Ferguson sparked the rally with a double, and Keen followed with a two-run double to give the Lady Vikes the lead. Ferguson helped seal the victory in the seventh with a two-run single to make the final score 10-6.
Ferguson finished 4 for 4 with three RBIs, while McKay went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Keen recorded two RBIs, while Muirhead and Mary Clell Allred each had one hit. Pant added an RBI and struck out three batters in the circle. Muirhead and Raegan Dean each recorded two strikeouts, while KK Williamson allowed no hits in relief.
Riverfield Academy edges St. Aloysius 6-5
The St. Aloysius baseball team suffered a narrow 6-5 loss to Riverfield Academy.
Sadler Lambiotte and Mason Bourne both recorded doubles in the contest. Pierson Smith led the Flashes with two RBIs, while Walt Andrews, Keller Bradley, Max Hargrave (one RBI) and Bourne each collected two hits.
Bradley also delivered a strong performance on the mound, striking out 11 batters.
Benton Academy defeats Porter’s Chapel 24-7
Porter’s Chapel Academy fell to Benton Academy 24-7.
Thomas Antwine struck out five batters for PCA. Antwine, Coltin Hancock and Hunter Bates each recorded a hit, while Bates also drove in two RBIs.
