SHARKEY COUNTY, Miss. (VDN) — A man who barricaded himself inside a home during his trial last week has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Judge James Chaney Jr. sentenced Charles Seaton to 15 years for robbery and 20 years for aggravated assault with extreme indifference. The sentences will run concurrently, resulting in a total of 20 years.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Warren represented the state in the case.

A Sharkey County jury deliberated about 45 minutes before returning a guilty verdict. Prosecutors said Seaton beat and robbed an elderly man.

During the trial, Seaton barricaded himself inside a home, prompting a response from a SWAT team, which ultimately took him into custody.
