Pecanty and Averett win South State titles

Pecanty won the MAIS Class 2A long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 1.75 inches to advance to this weekend’s state meet. Teammate Mia Abdo also qualified for state, placing second in the triple jump and third in the high jump.

Averett claimed the MAIS Class 3A title in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.68 seconds and finished fourth in the 300 hurdles.

St. Aloysius’ 4×100-meter relay team of Kennadi Blassingame, Kelci Bingham, Madelyn Kavanaugh and Megan Theriot won in 53.24 seconds. The 4×200 relay team of Addison Hardaway, Theriot, Blassingame and Kavanaugh also took first place in 1:52.38.

Bingham added a runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles (51.10) and placed fourth in the 100 hurdles.
