Vicksburg murder suspect shot dead by Florida Deputy – VIDEO
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A Vicksburg man wanted as a suspect in a 2013 murder in the city was shot to death by a Clay County, Florida Deputy on Saturday afternoon.
Warren County District Attorney Ricky Smith has confirmed the death of Morris Anthony Davis at the hands of Florida deputies. According to Clay County, Fla., Sheriff Michelle Cook, at around 4 p.m. on Saturday, deputies were dispatched to a residential area to assist in an investigation. During the course of the investigation, it was determined Davis had an out-of-state warrant. While deputies worked to confirm the warrant, Sheriff Cook said Davis armed himself with two knives and became confrontational with law enforcement. The confrontation escalated, and Davis was shot by a deputy.
A widely circulated video of the incident shows Davis on the ground refusing to comply with officers. In the video, Davis can be seen on the ground waving a single knife around, but he does not appear to try to get up or go after officers. A deputy appears on the scene and two shots, and then a third shot, ring out. Davis died as a result of the gunshots. The video is below, but be warned, it is graphic and unsettling.
Davis had been arrested and charged with the 2013 murder of Michael “Tiger” Robinson at the American Legion on Monroe Street in Vicksburg. He was issued a $175,000 bond and indicted on the charges, but failed to appear, resulting in a warrant for his arrest.
