VPD approved for new hiring practices
Vicksburg Police Department Chief Larry Burns approaches the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Alderman about changing hiring practices.
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg Police Department Chief Larry Burns approached the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen seeking a new policy for hiring.
At the regular BOMA meeting held Monday, July 6, Chief Burns approached the Board and explained how he wanted to change the hiring policies for the police department.
He said the old way allowed him to open a position for hiring and candidates only had a limited time to complete the process before the portal and position was closed. His proposal was to allow the position to remain open in order to attract more candidates and have more applicants apply.
“Sometimes they wouldn’t see it until that last day,” said Burns. “And they wouldn’t have enough time to complete the process.”
Mayor Willis Thompson and Alderman TJ Mayfield agreed the new process would allow for more applicants to apply to the police department.
The Board voted unanimously in favor of the changes.
