Mississippi Musicians and Filmmakers return home for two-night Strand Theatre event featuring concert and Bountiful screening
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Hollywood comes to Vicksburg for a special two-night event at the historic Strand Theatre on Friday and Saturday, August 28–29, bringing together Mississippi roots, Nashville music, and the classic American Western.
Port Gibson native Eric Hamilton and Vicksburg’s adopted son Sweepy Walker return to Mississippi for a weekend celebrating both their music and their latest film, Bountiful. They will be joined by Vicksburg’s own Lee H. Abraham and Daniel Boone, along with special guest and Bountiful cast member Fred “Bearkiller” Crabtree.
Hamilton and Walker have built careers in the Nashville music industry as recording artists, producers, and filmmakers, including work as Curb recording artists. Their latest venture takes them from the recording studio to the Old West as members of a gang of outlaws in Bountiful, the new Western produced by Winters Film Group, written and directed by and starring filmmaker Paul Winters.
The weekend begins Friday, August 28, at 7 p.m., with The Autovues live in concert, featuring Hamilton, Walker, Abraham, and Boone, with special guest Fred “Bearkiller” Crabtree. The evening brings the performers back to their Mississippi roots for a night of live music at one of Vicksburg’s most distinctive venues.
“Music, movies and Mississippi—three of my favorite things all coming together for one weekend,” Walker said. “I’ve been fortunate to make music and movies in a lot of places, but there’s something special about bringing it home to the people and places that helped shape me as an artist. Mississippi has a way of staying with you.”
Hamilton shares that sense of homecoming.
“It gives me great joy to return to the land I love and present the art, and the man, that it inspired,” Hamilton said. “There is something deeply meaningful about bringing both back home.”
On Saturday, August 29, at 7 p.m., the Strand will host a special screening of Bountiful, followed by a Q&A with members of the cast, giving local audiences an opportunity to hear firsthand about the making of the film and the experiences of the Mississippi artists who became part of its outlaw gang.
Set against the sweeping backdrop of the American West, Bountiful tells the story of a bad man’s last chance for good. The film stars Paul Winters, Eric Roberts, Patrick Kilpatrick, and Bourke Floyd, with Hamilton, Walker, Crabtree, and Parker Stewart appearing as members of its gang of outlaws.
For Hamilton and Walker, the Strand weekend is more than another stop for a movie or concert. It is a homecoming—a chance to share the music and film they have made beyond Mississippi with the communities and people who helped shape them.
