B. P. “Pete” Buford 1935-2026

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — 

B. P. “Pete” Buford passed away on July 8, 2026, at the age of 91.

Pete was born in Ackerman, Mississippi on February 13, 1935, the son of B. B. Buford and Ester Stewart Buford. The family moved to Vicksburg in 1940, where he became a successful entrepreneur and businessman that created many jobs in the community. He also retired from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. He was an avid hunter. He will be remembered for his unusual sense of humor and extreme quick wit.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Sis Hoben, Dadie Hughes, Tab Buford, Carter Buford, Buster Buford and Bobby Buford.

He is survived by the love of his life Ruby Buford, daughter Karen Galey, sons Tommy Buford (Lorie) and Ken Buford (Debbie), brother Ram Buford, step daughters Patricia Giles and Holly Bokros (Shawn), step son Richard Sanders, numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many lifelong friends and business associates.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Northside Baptist Church.
