Remembering Elizabeth Lanise Wicker

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Elizabeth Lanise Wicker(Pettway), lovingly known as Mamaw to her grandchildren, passed away on August 20, 2026, in Vicksburg, Miss., at the age of 67. She was born September 21, 1958, in Texarkana, Ark., to Tommy and Willie-Mae Pettway.

Wicker spent most of her life in Vicksburg. In her younger years, she worked as a landscaper, and later dedicated herself to caring for the elderly. She was one of the hardest-working women her family had ever known. Her heart was always open to others, and during her children’s teenage years, she welcomed their friends into her home, making sure everyone always had a place where they felt welcome.

Above all, Wickerloved her family. She adored her 10 grandchildren, who lovingly called her Mamaw, and treasured every moment with them. Her greatest legacy is the love and care she gave to her children, grandchildren, and everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Wicker was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, William “Rusty” Wicker; her parents, Tommy and Willie-Mae Pettway; her sister, Patricia Gainey; and her brother, James Macnealy.

She is survived by her three children, William “Little Rusty” Wicker; Aaron Wicker and his wife, Kelly; and Amy Cashion and her husband, Paul; her ten grandchildren; her siblings, Lucinda Chester, Nancy Graham, and David Pettway; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.

She will be remembered as a hardworking, loving mother, devoted Mamaw, and caring woman who never hesitated to open her heart or her home to others. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, beginning at 10 a.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Vicksburg.
