Alderman Mayfield to host National Voter Registration Day event
Alderman TJ Mayfield, in partnership with Mississippi Votes, Kinfolk, and the NAACP Youth & College Division, is inviting residents of Vicksburg and Warren County to participate in a National Voter Registration Day.
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Alderman TJ Mayfield, in partnership with Mississippi Votes, Kinfolk, and the NAACP Youth & College Division, is inviting residents of Vicksburg and Warren County to participate in a National Voter Registration Day event on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Main Street Pavilion.
This free event will provide people with an opportunity to learn more about the voting process, register to vote, and become more informed about the importance of civic participation. The evening will also include free food, voter education, voter games, and music from DJ Country Que.
“Voting is one of the most important ways we have to make our voices heard in our communities,” said Alderman TJ Mayfield. “National Voter Registration Day allows us to make sure people have the information and resources they need to participate in the political process. I am grateful to Mississippi Votes, Kinfolk, and the NAACP Youth & College Division for partnering with us to make this event possible.”
Alderman Mayfield encourages residents who are not registered to vote, have recently moved, or may need to update their voter information to attend the event. Voter education will be available for residents who have questions about registration, voting, and the importance of participating in local elections. Mayfield also said he wants as many young people to attend as possible as well.
“Local elections have a direct impact on our neighborhoods, schools, public safety, economic development, and quality of life,” Mayfield added. “Our community deserves to have its voice represented, and that starts with making sure people are registered and actually turn out to vote. We want to make voter registration accessible while creating an environment where people can learn, enjoy themselves, and understand why their participation matters. This is obviously going to be the week of the Red Carpet Bowl, so I would love to see as many Vikings and Gators come out and register our high school seniors as well.”
