Vicksburg Partners with Mission Primary Care Clinic to Improve Employee Healthcare

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) Mayor Willis Thompson has signed an agreement with Mission Primary Care Clinic that gives every City of Vicksburg employee and their family a health and wellness clinic of their own, at a set price the city can budget around, and with a provider based right here in Vicksburg.
The agreement was executed during a special called meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Monday, Aug. 31.
“This is a great deal for our employees, their families, and our taxpayers,” Thompson said. “Our city employees show up every day to keep the water running, the streets clean, and this city safe. Making it easy for them and their families to see a doctor is the least we can do, and doing it at a price the city can plan around is how we protect the budget at the same time.”
Coverage extends to all city employees, their spouses and their dependent children ages 2 to 18, along with dependent full-time college students through age 26. Care will be provided at Mission Primary Care Clinic’s facility at 1901 Mission 66.
Comprehensive Services at the Clinic
Services include yearly health risk assessments and physicals, sick visits, wound and fracture care, lab work, X-ray, EKG, spirometry and hearing tests, wellness coaching, nutritional counseling and tobacco cessation all under one roof. The clinic will also handle occupational health work the city now sends elsewhere, including pre-employment and DOT physicals, in-house drug testing, vision and hearing screenings and workplace injury management. Employees managing ongoing conditions will have access to chronic care management, in-house and remote blood pressure and glucose checks, follow-up visits in person or by telehealth, and transition-of-care visits after a hospital stay.
Clinic Operating Hours
The clinic will be open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, with telemedicine available when clinically appropriate. That six-day schedule is meant to keep employees from having to choose between a doctor’s appointment and a day’s work.
The city will pay a flat all-inclusive rate of $150 per eligible person for a visit in the first year, plus a $15 administration fee for vaccinations and a $2,000 monthly medical directorship fee. The rate is $155 in a second year and $160 in a third year if the contract is extended. The flat rate gives the city a predictable cost for employee care rather than a bill that swings with utilization.
Thompson said keeping the contract in Warren County mattered.
“Mission Primary Care Clinic is right here on Mission 66 in Vicksburg. Their people live here, spend here, and pay taxes here. Every dollar we spend on this contract stays in this community, and that’s exactly how we ought to do business when we can. It’s one more way we’re building a safer, stronger, smarter Vicksburg.”
The city solicited proposals for the wellness clinic and health care program April 10. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen accepted the recommendation of the city’s Health Care Committee on July 10 and voted to award the contract to Mission Primary Care Clinic.
The initial term runs one year and may be renewed in one-year periods. Mission Primary Care Clinic will supply the personnel, equipment and supplies to operate the clinic, maintain all provider licensing and credentialing, comply with HIPAA and provide the city a monthly utilization report that contains no individually identifiable health information.
