Thigpen scored five touchdowns last week; Sims led VJHS in receiving

D’Chance Thigpen scored five touchdowns in Vicksburg Junior High School’s 42-6 victory over Pearl Junior High, with Kaleb Sims leading in receiving yards. The Gators will play their home opener against Germantown next week.

D’Chance Thigpen and Kaleb Sims led the way offensively for the Vicksburg Junior High School football team last Tuesday, combining to account for seven touchdowns in the Gators’ season-opening victory.

VJHS cruised to a 42-6 win over Pearl Junior High, with Thigpen accounting for five touchdowns. He threw four touchdown passes and rushed for another score.

Thigpen connected with three different receivers for touchdowns, with his scoring passes covering 57, 80, 65 and 35 yards.

Sims dominated at wide receiver, finishing with 145 receiving yards on just two catches. Both receptions went for touchdowns, as he hauled in scoring passes of 65 and 80 yards from Thigpen. Sims also added 45 rushing yards.

Vicksburg Junior High is led by head coach Larry Carter Jr. The Gators will play their home opener Tuesday at Vicksburg High School against Germantown.
