Gators shutout Yazoo City 35-0
Vicksburg High School’s football team achieved its first victory of the season by shutting out Yazoo City 35-0. The Gators scored multiple touchdowns and showcased a strong defensive performance throughout the game.

Vicksburg High School’s football team earned its first win of the season Friday night, shutting out Yazoo City 35-0 on the road and spoiling the Indians’ homecoming.
The Gators wasted little time finding the end zone, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter.
Nick Carson took most of the early handoffs and helped move the chains with several first-down runs. Rico Thomas then broke free for a 31-yard touchdown run, and Casey Brown added the extra point to give VHS a 7-0 lead.
A bad snap on a Yazoo City punt gave Vicksburg possession inside the 5-yard line. Quarterback TJ Selvy capitalized on the field position with a 2-yard touchdown run. Brown’s extra point extended the lead to 14-0.
Jordan Clay also took some early snaps at quarterback and picked up 12 yards on a run just before the end of the first quarter.
The Gators would not score again until late in the second quarter. Selvy connected with Jaylen Stewart on a screen pass to help move the ball down the field before Clay finished the drive with an 18-yard touchdown run. Selvy ran in the 2-point conversion to give VHS a 22-0 lead.
Messiah Sims added to Vicksburg’s strong defensive performance by grabbing an interception at the halftime buzzer.
The Gators’ defense continued to dominate in the second half. James Warfield intercepted a pass in the third quarter to give VHS another turnover.
Vicksburg added to its lead before the end of the third when Selvy connected with Stewart for a 40-yard touchdown pass, pushing the score to 29-0.
The Gators found the end zone one final time when Jaquez Jones returned a punt 25 yards for a touchdown to complete the 35-0 shutout.
Vicksburg will travel to face Florence next Friday.
