Hinds CC defeats Mississippi Delta 48-21

Hinds Community College football team defeated Mississippi Delta Community College 48-21, improving to 4-2 on the season. The Eagles scored four rushing touchdowns and showcased strong defense throughout the game.

The Hinds Community College football team used a strong second half to pull away from Mississippi Delta Community College, defeating the Trojans 48-21 Thursday night at Jim Randall Stadium. With the victory, the Eagles improve to 4-2 overall on the season.

Hinds trailed 7-3 after the opening quarter before taking control in the second. The Eagles scored three touchdowns in the quarter, all coming on the ground from Makari Bodiford, to take a 17-14 lead into halftime.

Bodiford continued to make an impact in the second half, scoring his fourth rushing touchdown of the night on a six-yard run early in the third quarter and added a two-yard touchdown run later in the quarter as Hinds extended its advantage to 31-21 heading into the fourth.

The Eagles added 17 points in the final quarter to put the game away. Braylenn Spann connected on a 23-yard field goal before Jamarcus Pittmanconnected with Peyton Johnson for a 10-yard touchdown. Pittman and Johnson connected again on a 10-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter to cap the scoring at 48-21.

Hinds finished the night with 391 yards of total offense, including 202 passing yards and 189 rushing yards. The Eagles also converted 7-of-12 third-down opportunities.

Jaylon Ruffin completed 13-of-21 passes for 192 yards while adding 59 yards on nine carries. Pittman completed his lone pass attempt for 10 yards and a touchdown.

Bodiford led the Eagles on the ground with 66 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns, while Ruffin added 59 yards rushing. Terry scored a rushing touchdown, and Hinds finished with four rushing touchdowns on the night.

Through the air, De’Traun Brown led the Eagles with four receptions for 43 yards. Kiandre Terryhauled in three passes for 56 yards, Demar Gardner had three receptions for 50 yards, DJ Miller recorded three catches for 43 yards, and Johnson finished with one reception for 10 yards and a touchdown.

Special teams also provided a spark for the Eagles. Anthony Loftin recorded 121 kickoff return yards on two returns, including a 99-yard return for a touchdown. Spann added 12 points, going 2-for-3 on field-goal attempts and a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points. Wyatt Long averaged 44.3 yards on three punts, including a long of 48 yards.

Defensively, Hinds held Mississippi Delta to 279 yards of total offense, including just 82 yards rushing. Floyd Harris led the Eagles with nine total tackles, while Narco Dunn added eight and Jordan Randle finished with five. Zachariah Smith recorded four tackles and a team-high three sacks for 14 yards, while Jamarris Johnson added two sacks for seven yards. Joshua Williams and Keavon Jacobs also recorded sacks, giving Hinds seven sacks for 51 yards on the night.

The Eagles totaled 13 tackles for loss for 75 yards and forced one fumble. Jeremiah Campbell and Zedric Washington each recorded a fumble recovery, with Washington also forcing the turnover. Cameron Mitchell added an interception that he returned 10 yards.

Hinds will return to action on Thursday, October 8th against Pearl River in Poplarville. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
