Yard of the month Ward 1

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN)Ward 1 Alderman T.J. Mayfield has announced the launch of the “Ward 1 Yard of the Month” program, a new community initiative recognizing residents who take pride in their outdoor spaces and contribute to the beautification of their neighborhoods.

Each month, one residential yard in Ward 1 will be selected based on overall appearance, landscaping, creativity, and upkeep. Winners will receive public recognition, a commemorative Yard of the Month sign, and a personal acknowledgment from Mayfield. Winners will be selected through a poll conducted on Facebook by Vicksburg residents.

“This is about more than just lawns and flowers,” Mayfield said in a press release. It’s about neighborhood pride, community engagement, and showing appreciation for the folks who go the extra mile to make Ward 1 shine. Whether it’s a colorful flower bed, creative use of space, or a well-maintained lawn, this program aims to showcase the pride and effort that make Ward 1 a beautiful place to live.”

Nominations are now open. Ward 1 residents are encouraged to nominate themselves or a neighbor by completing the application form, available online here or at the Alderman’s office. Submissions should include photos and a brief description of what makes the yard unique. Eligible properties must be residential, free of debris and clutter, and in compliance with city codes.

The deadline to submit will be the first of each month.
