VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg Warren School District will participate in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2025–2026 school year, providing free breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students through the Community Eligibility Provision.

“We understand that many families are facing economic challenges, and we are committed to removing barriers to student success,” said Superintendent Dr. Tori Holloway. “Providing free meals to all our students is one way we can support our community and ensure children are ready to learn each day.”

The program is funded through a combination of federal and state support, allowing the district to serve free meals to every student regardless of household income. Meals will follow nutritional guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and include options for students with dietary restrictions.

Key aspects of the program include:

  • All students in VWSD are eligible for free meals.
  • No application is required for participation.
  • Meals will include fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins.

“We believe that no child should ever have to learn on an empty stomach,” said Dr. Keba Laird, director of child nutrition. “By providing free meals, we are investing in our students’ futures and helping create a more equitable learning environment.”

Parents and guardians with questions about the program can contact the VWSD Department of Child Nutrition at (601) 631-2826 or email cno@vwsd.org.
